A thick hardwood layer is glued to a quarter sawn softwood core, with a red pine backer veneer ensuring optimal rigidity. Herringbone pattern floors are characterized by a very symmetrical installation: boards of uniform dimensions are positioned at right angles and tongue and groove joined to form 90 joints.
