Franz worked before his military service as a machine fitter (metalworker). During the war he served as a soldier in a Flak battery (anti aircraft defense). On 27 August 1943, he died at the young age of just 19 and a half in the Reserve Lazarett (military hospital) Duisburg Beeck.
